As soon as you find out the name of the company you are applying to, use your time wisely. You can then make the most of the internet and really prepare yourself. Look on Google for any recent reviews that are relevant to the company or any industry-related articles that could be a conversation starter.
Many companies have asked in interview how much you know about them. You don’t need to be able to tell them everything but having a few key prepared ideas up your sleeve will look better than none at all. Be warned that there may be some negative reviews which should be taken on board but shouldn’t be a decision-maker. Facebook and LinkedIn should also be a key source to investigate.
A lot of company websites will explain the size of the company and whether they are dealing with large or small portfolios. They may also have testimonials to give you an idea of how they operate. They usually have a mission statement or ideology that you can check if you agree with and if it suits you. You may wish to see the information held on Companies House too. This is your research which will help you make an important decision, so be as thorough as you deem fit. Why not try doing a dummy run for the interview? You have the location so check how long it takes to get there, if there is ample parking or if you can use public transport? What is the dress code? Seeing people entering the building is an easy way to see what they are wearing. Making sure your interview outfit suits the job you are applying for is crucial.
Being clean, smartly dressed and well-groomed is a necessary part of interview preparation. Your first impression is vital. Good research can help you get that right. The important thing to remember with any kind of research is that it can only help you make better decisions, so the time invested in this part of the process is in your favour.
